Biography

A Life Dedicated to the Stories of Charleston

Early Life

Born and raised in the Lowcountry, Chief Godfrey KHill grew up surrounded by the living traditions of the Gullah Geechee people. From an early age, he listened to the stories of elders, absorbed the rhythms of the language, and walked the same streets that had borne witness to centuries of history.

A Passion for Gullah History

What began as curiosity became a lifelong calling. He dedicated himself to researching Charleston’s past — not through legends or assumptions, but through historical records, oral traditions, geography, architecture, and the living memory of the Gullah Geechee community.

Mission

His mission is simple but profound: to ensure that the stories of Charleston — especially those too often overlooked — are not only remembered but understood. To help visitors look beyond the beauty and discover the people, faith, struggle, resilience, and culture that make the Holy City unlike anywhere else.
